NTZDC Board of Directors late January visited the Kuresoi Buffer Project in South West Mau to inspect the ongoing rehabilitation of the 23 kilometre tea buffer project protecting part of Mau forest ecosystem. The Board, led by Chairperson and Managing Director was impressed with the good work on the ground including pruning and tipping of the tea bushes as well as infilling and consolidation. The Board of Directors also witnessed plucking of green leaf at the Kuresoi establishment.
Board Chair Prof. Elizabeth Pantoren thanked the staff for a job well done. She reiterated the importance of forest conservation, noting that the Corporation played an important complementary role by providing livelihood support to forest adjacent communities thereby stopping encroachment into forestland.
Local residents represented by elders were at hand to welcome the Board of Directors, and thanked NTZDC for starting the project that has assisted in creation of jobs for local communities thereby providing much needed livelihood support. The Board through the Chair and MD committed to continue the support, including implementation of CSR projects in the buffer zones on conservation related activities.
