Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation last Friday hosted a high-level government delegation at Kapsokwony Zone in Bungoma County on a feasibility tour to establish a tea processing factory in the region. The delegation was led by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mithika Linturi on invitation by the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetangula, and Bungoma County Governor Hon. Kenneth Lusaka and was graced by other dignitaries. The Cabinet Secretary noted that the Nyayo Tea Zones Corporation tea buffer zone protecting Mt. Elgon Forest and water tower was proof that tea growing is a viable venture in the region that, if adopted, can help farmers diversify their crops and earn more income from their farms.

The delegation was led by Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mithika Linturi on invitation by the Speaker of the National Assembly Hon. Moses Wetangula, and Bungoma County Governor Hon. Elgon Forest and water tower was proof that tea growing is a viable venture in the region that, if adopted, can help farmers diversify their crops and earn more income from their farms.

CS Linturi indicated that the tea factory will be domiciled at a place to be identified in Bungoma County and will be funded by the national government through its agency, Nyayo Tea Zones Development Corporation which already runs two factories in Nandi and Kirinyaga Counties. The new factory is set to catalyze the uptake of tea farming and improve the welfare of farmers in the region. This is in line with the government policy of economic empowerment of citizens for improvement of the grassroots economy which is largely agriculture-based.
The Corporation was represented by the Managing Director, North Rift Regional Manager and the Kapsokwony Tea Zone Manager.
